the scale of gray

here's a demo image [link] i took the night before i took this shot.

ten lights were used at different angles and intensities. no filters were used on the lense. no editing was done on the pc except grayscaling, resizing, and adding boarders.

i didn't end up liking the background as much as i thought i would. albeit it's still not complete. it's barely more than a sketch really, but i'm not sure it's exactly what i'm wanting for this image. i was thinking that the 'pillars' i'm using look similar to chess pieces and that maybe i could use a chess board for the background and put out some pieces to be in a non-focus area of the image...

not sure yet. but i do know that i've nailed the lighting effects i'm wanting to get. so, one part down, i guess.
